Massachusetts announced the end of their COVID-19 states of emergency and mask mandates.
The CDC also changed their guidelines on masking in healthcare settings.
Their update states, “When COVID-19 community transmission levels are not high, healthcare facilities could choose not to require universal (masking).”
Masks have been important during the pandemic. At this point in time, however, universal masking is no longer needed. This is due to many factors, including the availability of vaccines and treatments.
Can I still wear a mask?
Yes. Patients, providers, and staff can continue masking if desired.
Should I wear a mask if I have symptoms?
Yes. Patients are required to wear a mask if they:
- Have a fever
- Upper respiratory symptoms
- Other flu-like symptoms
